1945년 해방의 기쁨과 함께 시작된 저희 협회가 어느덧 80년이라는 뜻깊은 역사를 맞이했습니다. 

격동의 세월 속에서도 묵묵히 사진 예술의 외길을 걸어오신 선배님들과, 그 숭고한 정신을 이어받아 끊임없이 새로운 시도를 해온 모든 회원분께 깊은 존경과 감사의 말씀을 전합니다.

80년이라는 시간은 단순히 숫자가 아닙니다. 

이는 대한민국의 역사와 함께 호흡하며 사진 예술의 발전과 그 위상을 높이기 위해 헌신해온 수많은 사진인의 열정과 땀, 그리고 끊임없는 탐구의 결과입니다. 

저희 협회는 지난 80년간 수많은 기록을 남기며 시대의 변화를 사진으로 담아내고, 예술로서의 사진이 나아가야 할 방향을 모색해왔습니다.

이번 80주년 기념전은 그 오랜 여정 속에서 피어난 소중한 결실들을 한자리에 모은 자리입니다. 

회원들의 작품은 단순히 아름다운 이미지를 넘어, 작가 개개인의 깊이 있는 시선과 철학, 그리고 시대를 향한 진지한 성찰을 담고 있습니다.

대한사진예술가협회는 앞으로도 사진 예술의 지평을 넓히고, 새로운 세대의 사진인들이 마음껏 역량을 펼칠 수 있는 토대를 마련하며, 사진이 우리 사회에 더욱 긍정적인 영향력을 미칠 수 있도록 최선을 다할 것입니다.

Dear Esteemed Members of the Photographic Artist Association of Korea,

It is with great honor that our association, which began with the joy of liberation in 1945, now marks 80 years of profound history. I extend my deepest respect and gratitude to all the senior members who have steadfastly walked the sole path of photo art through turbulent times, and to all members who have inherited that noble spirit and continuously pursued new endeavors.

The span of 80 years is not merely a number. It is the result of the passion, dedication, and endless exploration of countless photographers who have breathed alongside the history of the Republic of Korea, dedicated to the development and elevation of the status of photographic art. Over the past 80 years, our association has left behind numerous records, capturing the changes of the times through photography, and exploring the direction that photography should take as an art form.

This 80th Anniversary Exhibition is an occasion to gather the precious fruits that have blossomed throughout that long journey. The works of our members go beyond simply beautiful images; they encapsulate each artist's profound perspective, philosophy, and sincere reflection on the times.

the Photographic Artist Association of Korea will continue to expand the horizons of photo art, lay the foundation for new generations of photographers to fully demonstrate their capabilities, and do its utmost to ensure that photography exerts an even more positive influence on our society.

한국 사진예술의 산 역사인 대한사진예술가협회가 창립 80주년을 맞이하는 뜻깊은 날, 이 영광스러운 순간을 함께 자축하게 되어 가슴 벅찬 감동을 느낍니다.

우리 협회의 역사는 1945년 9월, 광복의 감격 속에 백양사우회와 경성아마추어카메라구락부의 중견 회원들이 결집하여 조선사진예술연구회를 발족하면서 시작되었습니다. 이해선, 현일영, 박영진, 박필호, 김정래, 오인창, 이규완, 이태응 등 창립회원들의 숭고한 예술혼은 오늘날 협회의 굳건한 뿌리가 되었습니다.

이후 우리 협회는 전국 사진가들의 구심점이 되어 각 지역에 지부를 설치하며 명실상부한 전국적인 사진단체로 성장하였고, 1947년에는 대한사진예술연구회로 개명하며 사진예술 발전에 헌신해 왔습니다.

잠시 시련의 시기도 있었습니다. 1961년 정부 명령으로 모든 예술단체가 해체되는 아픔을 겪었으나, 예술가들의 열정은 꺼지지 않았습니다. 이듬해인 1962년 한국사진협회가 예총 산하에 창립되며 그 맥을 이어갔으며, 1964년 문화단체 활동 해금령이 내려지자 백오 이해선 선생을 중심으로 김조현, 성두경, 안준천 선생 등이 다시 한번 힘을 합쳐 대한사진예술가협회를 재건하고 오늘에 이르게 되었습니다. 이분들의 숭고한 희생과 노력에 깊은 존경을 표합니다.

저 개인적으로는 1967년 10월, 연구회원으로 협회와 첫 인연을 맺은 이후 58년간 동행해 왔습니다. 매월 연구월례회에 작품을 제출하며 이해선 선생님의 가르침을 받았고, 1968년 1월에는 공보부 중앙공보관의 종합미술전시회 협회 부스에 첫 출품을 허락받는 영광을 누렸습니다.

이후 제17회 대한사협전부터 2025년 제71회 대한사협전까지 꾸준히 참여해 왔습니다. 제가 겪은 58년의 변화도 놀라울 만큼 격동적이었지만, 대한사협 80년의 역사는 끊임없는 시대와 예술사조의 변화를 포용하며 새로운 사진문화를 창출해 온 위대한 기록입니다.

오늘날 우리 협회의 영광은 그동안 협회를 굳건히 이끌어 오신 역대 회장단과 임원들, 그리고 사진에 대한 한결같은 열정을 보여주신 모든 회원님들의 헌신적인 사랑 덕분입니다.

대한사협의 재건과 발전을 위해 헌신하셨던 분들, 특히 백오 이해선, 김조현, 성두경, 안준천, 이순흥, 김석현, 김용필, 이완섭, 이정훈, 최진연 등 고인이 되신 모든 선구자들을 추모하며, 80년의 역사를 밝혀온 대한사협의 모든 회원님들께 다시 한번 뜨거운 영광을 돌립니다.

현재 활발하게 활동하고 계시는 전국의 모든 회원님들 한 분 한 분이 바로 협회의 미래이며, 한국 사진예술을 빛낼 소중한 자산입니다.

Commemorative Address for the 80th Anniversary of The Photographic Artist Association of Korea (PAAK)

Esteemed Members of The Photographic Artist Association of Korea (PAAK) !

We are deeply moved and privileged to celebrate a momentous occasion: the 80th Anniversary of The Photographic Artist Association of Korea (PAAK), a living history of Korean photographic art. We are filled with profound emotion to commemorate this glorious moment together.

The history of our Association began in September 1945, amidst the elation of liberation. Senior members of the Baekyangsawoo Association and the Gyeongseong Camera Club united to inaugurate the Joseon Photographic Art Research Society. The sublime artistic spirit of the founding members—including Lee Hae-seon, Hyun Il-yeong, Park Young-jin, Park Pil-ho, Kim Jeong-rae, Oh In-chang, Lee Gyu-wan, and Lee Tae-eung—has become the firm root of our Association today.

Subsequently, the Association grew to become a genuine nationwide photographic organization, establishing chapters across the country as a central rallying point for photographers throughout the nation. In 1947, it was renamed the Korean Photographic Art Research Society, dedicating itself to the advancement of photographic art.

The Association endured a period of hardship. In 1961, the government dissolved all art organizations, yet the passion of the artists remained unextinguished. The torch was passed on in 1962 when the Photographic Society of Korea was established under the Federation of Artistic and Culture Organizations (Ye-Chong). Following the lifting of the ban on cultural activities in 1964, luminaries such as Baek-Oh Lee Hae-seon, along with Kim Jo-hyeon, Seong Du-gyeong, and Ahn Jun-cheon, once again joined forces to reestablish The Photographic Artist Association of Korea (PAAK), the legacy of which continues to this day. We express our deepest respect for their noble sacrifice and relentless efforts.

My 58-Year Journey with the PAAK

On a personal note, I first connected with the Association as a Research Member in October 1967, and have since walked alongside it for 58 years. I submitted my work at the monthly research meetings and was mentored by Lee Hae-seon. In January 1968, I was granted the honor of making my first official submission at the PAAK booth during the Comprehensive Art Exhibition hosted by the Central Public Information Center of the Ministry of Public Information.

Since then, I have consistently participated, from the 17th PAAK Exhibition all the way to the 71st PAAK Exhibition in 2025. While the 58 years I have personally witnessed were tumultuous and transformative, the 80-year history of the PAAK is an incredible testament to its ability to embrace the ceaseless changes in eras and artistic trends while creating a new photographic culture.

Gratitude for the Dedication, Hope for a New Future

The glory of our Association today is owed to the dedicated love and unwavering passion for photography shown by the successive Presidents, executives, and all members who have steadfastly led the PAAK.

We commemorate all the pioneers who have passed away—including Baek-Oh Lee Hae-seon, Kim Jo-hyeon, Seong Du-gyeong, Ahn Jun-cheon, Lee Sun-heung, Kim Seok-hyeon, Kim Yong-pil, Lee Wan-seop, Lee Jeong-hoon, and Choi Jin-yeon—who dedicated themselves to the reconstruction and development of the PAAK. We extend our warmest and deepest appreciation to all members of the PAAK who have illuminated these 80 years of history.

Every single member actively working across the nation today is the future of our Association and a precious asset that will glorify Korean photographic art.

I sincerely congratulate The Photographic Artist Association of Korea (PAAK) once again on its 80th Anniversary, and I fervently wish that this monumental occasion serves as a firm stepping stone to opening up the next 100 years of our history!

빛, 시간을 품다


빛이 도착한다. 시간이 뒤이어 드러난다. 


사진은 빛과 시간이 스치며 남기는 진동에서 시작하며,

지나간 것을 오지 않은 세계 속에 보존하는 주문이다.

2025년 대한사진예술가협회가 창립 80주년을 맞이했다. 80년 동안 한국은 해방과 전쟁, 가파른 경제성장을 겪으며 커다란 변화를 겪었다. 격동의 현대사를 함께 하며 대한사진예술가협회는 긴 시간 동안 사진으로 한국의 변화를 기록하며 호흡해 왔다. 1945년 해방과 함께 태동한 대한사진예술가협회는 빛을 매개로 시간과 인간의 삶을 기록하면서 예술의 지평을 넓혀 왔다.

이번 전시 <빛, 시간을 품다>라는 80년의 여정을 다시 바라보고, 미래를 준비하는 자리이다. 사진은 ‘빛’의 예술이며, 동시에 ‘시간’의 언어다. 필름으로 포착된 이미지가 종이 위에 은입자로 새겨지고, 디지털 센서 위에 떨어지는 한 줄기 광선은 사라질 순간을 영원으로 전환한다. 사진은 개인의 기억을 공동체의 역사로 확장하고 각자가 품은 생각을 이미지로 드러내는 매체로 자리매김했다. 대한사진예술가협회의 <빛, 시간을 품다>는 이해선 사진상을 받은 작업들과 함께 현재 작업하고 있는 회원들의 사진을 한데 모아 프레임 안에 담긴 빛과 시간이 구축한 한국 사회의 얼굴과 우리에게 남은 울림을 되짚어 보고자 한다.

1. 여명(黎明): 광복과 격동의 시대

여명 섹션에서는 해방을 맞은 거리의 풍경, 전쟁의 상흔, 재건을 위해 의지를 다시는 한국의 모습을 톺아본다. 이 당시 촬영된 사진들은 한국 역사의 증인이자 혼탁한 사회의 틈새를 짚어 내며 시대의 감정과 호흡을 박제시키는 사료이다. 단순한 기억이 아니라, 지나온 시간에 남겨진 진실을 바라보게 될 것이다.

2. 성장(成長): 산업화와 민주화의 발자취

나라가 숨 가쁘게 뛰어가던 시대, 사진은 변화의 속도를 담아내는 가장 예민한 감각이었다. 공장의 굉음, 도시의 확장, 시민들의 모습과 연대, 모든 장면은 한 사회가 성숙해 가는 과정을 보여주는 시각적 연대기일 것이다. 찬란하지만 눈물이 녹진하게 밴 산업화의 현장과 강한 민주화의 투쟁이 쏘아 올린 빛을 사진가들은 외면하지 않았고, 그들이 남긴 사진은 시대의 기록이자 예술로 남았다.

3. 공명(共鳴): 현대인의 삶과 예술적 시선

빛은 역사적 사건을 지나 일상의 미세한 결을 더듬고, 인간의 내면을 들여다보며, 새로운 의미를 생성한다. 도시의 그림자, 사람들이 만나 빚어내는 풍경과 인간미, 예술적 상상력이 만들어 내는 새로운 장면들이 교차한다. 사진을 통해 우리는 일상과 사유가 진동처럼 서로에게 번져가는 것을 목격한다. 다른 울림들이 서로를 흔들며 아름답게 빛나는 순간, 사진은 대화가 되고 이미지는 질문이 된다.

4. 환영(幻影): 미지의 미래를 향한 탐색

빛은 미래를 향해 열린 문이자, 아직 도착하지 않은 시간의 징후다. 환영 섹션은 사진이 더 이상 단순한 재현의 도구가 아니라, 새로운 가능성을 모색하는 예술적 실험의 도구임을 보여준다. 추상적 이미지가 빚어내는 아름다운 혼돈, 디지털과 아날로그가 섞여 만들어 내는 미학, 경계에서 생성되는 새로운 시각 언어들이 공존한다.

대한사진예술가협회는 80년이라는 긴 시간 동안 한국 사진예술의 성장과 확장을 함께 해 왔다. 전쟁 이후 폐허 속에서도 멈추지 않았던 창작의 열정, 산업화의 소음 속에서 찾아낸 일상, 빛을 매개로 찾아낸 다양한 시도, 그리고 미래에 대한 상상력에 이르기까지, 대한사진예술가협회 회원들이 이어온 한국 사진의 역사를 한마디로 요약하면 ‘빛으로 새기는 기록, 다채로운 시선의 역사’라고 할 수 있을 것이다.

 이번 전시 <빛, 시간을 품다>라는 시간의 강을 따라 흘러온 수많은 이미지와 함께, 시대를 살아 낸 사람들, 그리고 그들의 시선을 이어받아 다시 새로운 이미지를 만들어 갈 우리의 미래를 함께 바라보며 공명하는 자리가 될 것이다. 이번 전시는 지난 80년을 기념하는 전시이자, 앞으로의 80년을 향한 선언이다. 그동안 프레임에 품어진 빛이 새로운 세대를 거쳐 더욱 넓은 세계로 확장되기를 바라며, 우리 모두의 시간이 이번 전시를 통해 다시 한번 깨어나길 기원한다.

Light, Embracing Time

Light arrives. Time is subsequently revealed. Photography begins with the vibration left as light and time pass, and it is an incantation that preserves the past within a world that has not yet come.

In 2025, the Photographic Artist Association of Korea (PAAK) marks its 80th anniversary. Over these eight decades, Korea has undergone immense changes, experiencing liberation, war, and rapid economic growth. By walking alongside this turbulent modern history, PAAK has consistently documented and resonated with Korea's transformation through photography for a long time. Established with the liberation in 1945, PAAK has broadened the horizon of art by recording time and human life mediated by light.

This exhibition, <Light, Embracing Time>, is an opportunity to look back at the 80-year journey and prepare for the future. Photography is the art of 'light' and, simultaneously, the language of 'time.' An image captured on film is etched onto paper with silver particles, and a single ray of light falling onto a digital sensor transforms a fleeting moment into eternity. Photography has established itself as a medium that expands individual memory into communal history and reveals the thoughts held by each person through images. <Light, Embracing Time> by the Photographic Artist Association of Korea seeks to gather works that have received the Hae-sun Lee Photography Award along with photographs by current members to revisit the face of Korean society built by the light and time contained within the frame, and the resonance that remains with us.

Exhibition Sections

1. Dawn (黎明): Liberation and the Era of Turbulence

The Dawn section explores the landscapes of the streets encountering liberation, the scars of war, and the image of Korea resolving to rebuild. The photographs taken during this period are historical records that serve as witnesses to Korean history, point out the cracks in a chaotic society, and preserve the emotions and pulse of the era. They invite us to look upon the truth left behind in the time that has passed, not merely simple memories.

2. Growth (成長): Traces of Industrialization and Democratization

In the age when the nation was running breathlessly, photography was the most sensitive sense capturing the speed of change. The roar of factories, the expansion of cities, the appearance and solidarity of citizens—every scene is a visual chronicle showing the process of a society's maturation. Photographers did not turn away from the dazzling, yet tear-soaked, sites of industrialization and the light projected by the intense struggle for democratization. The photographs they left behind remain as both historical records and art of the time.

3. Resonance (共鳴): Modern Life and the Artistic Gaze

Beyond historical events, light traces the subtle texture of daily life, peers into the human interior, and generates new meanings. City shadows, the scenes and humanity created by people meeting, and new spectacles generated by artistic imagination intersect. Through photography, we witness how daily life and contemplation spread to one another like vibrations. In the moment when different echoes shake each other and shine beautifully, photography becomes a dialogue, and the image becomes a question.

4. Phantasm (幻影): Exploration towards an Unknown Future

Light is a door open toward the future and a sign of time that has not yet arrived. The Phantasm section demonstrates that photography is no longer merely a tool for representation but a means for artistic experimentation that explores new possibilities. The beautiful chaos created by abstract images, the aesthetics formed by the mixture of digital and analog, and new visual languages generated at boundaries coexist.

The Photographic Artist Association of Korea has accompanied the growth and expansion of Korean photo art over the long period of 80 years. From the passion for creation that never ceased even amidst the post-war ruins, to the ordinary life discovered within the noise of industrialization, the diverse attempts found through the medium of light, and the imagination toward the future—the history of Korean photography pursued by PAAK members can be summarized as: 'Record Etched by Light, History of Diverse Perspectives.'

This exhibition, <Light, Embracing Time>, will be a place of resonance where we collectively look upon the countless images that have flowed along the river of time, the people who lived through the eras, and our future that will inherit their gaze to create new images. This exhibition is both a commemoration of the past 80 years and a declaration toward the next 80. We hope that the light held within the frame will expand into a wider world through new generations, and we wish for the time of all of us to be reawakened through this exhibition.

대한사진예술가협회는 창립 80주년을 맞아 특별 사진전 '빛, 시간을 품다'를 12월 6일부터 12일까지 서울 종로구 인사동 아지트 미술관에서 개최한다. 

1945년 해방과 함께 한국 사진 예술의 태동을 알리며 창립된 대한사진예술가협회는 지난 80년간 대한민국 사진 예술의 발전과 위상을 높이는 데 중추적인 역할을 해왔다.

이번 전시는 지난 80년의 역사와 미래를 향한 비전을 아우르는 특별한 의미를 지닌다.

'빛, 시간을 품다'는 한국 현대사의 격동적인 순간들을 담은 기록 사진부터, 급변하는 시대 속에서 피어난 예술적 영감, 그리고 다가올 미래를 조망하는 실험적인 작품들까지 폭넓게 선보인다. 

특히, 이번 전시는 단순한 과거 회고를 넘어, 사진이 기록해 온 '시간'과 사진 예술을 구성하는 본질적인 요소인 '빛'의 조화를 담아내고자 기획되었다.

전시 작품들은 ▲여명(黎明): 광복과 격동의 시대 

▲성장(成長): 산업화와 민주화의 발자취 

▲공명(共鳴): 현대인의 삶과 예술적 시선 

▲환영(幻影): 미지의 미래를 향한 탐색 등 네 가지 섹션과 특별전으로 

▲이해선 사진문화상 수상자의 전시도 함께 구성되어 관람객들에게 시간과 공간을 넘나드는 깊이 있는 예술적 경험을 선사할 예정이다.

대한사진예술가협회 김평기 회장은

 "창립 80주년을 맞이하여 한국 사진 예술의 과거와 현재, 그리고 미래를 한눈에 조망할 수 있는 뜻깊은 자리를 마련하게 되어 매우 기쁘다"라며, 

"이번 전시가 사진을 사랑하는 모든 이들에게 깊은 영감을 주고, 한국 사진 예술의 새로운 80년을 여는 계기가 되기를 바란다"라고 전했다.

한편, 이번 전시는 서울 본회를 비롯해 대전, 부산, 대천, 대구, 청주, 인천지회 회원 150여 명의 작가가 자신만의 시선을 표현한 작품으로 참여했다.
